Cops cripple Penang drug ring with arrest of three, including father, teen son

GEORGE TOWN: Police have crippled a drug trafficking syndicate and seized drugs worth RM560,000 in Penang with the arrest of three men in a warehouse for peddling syabu, heroin and ganja.

George Town acting OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said a narcotics investigation team from George Town with cooperation from the Balik Pulau team launched an operation around 1.15pm on Thursday (Nov 2) in various locations around Penang.

"In two raids, police arrested three suspects, all men, including a 19-year-old student and his 52-year-old father who were involved in trafficking heroin, syabu and ganja," said Supt Saravanan at a press conference at the George Town district police headquarters on Friday (Nov 3).

The raids, said Supt Saravanan, were conducted in Ayer Itam and Balik Pulau where the warehouse used to store and traffic the drugs were discovered.

"Intelligence reports show that the syndicate was active since early September, selling the drugs in the local market which could be used by 206,510 people.

"Urine samples on two of the suspects tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. Two of them have previous records for criminal and drug offences," he said.

Police also seized a BMW 320i car worth RM24,000 and cash of RM1,100.

The suspects were remanded for seven days from Thursday until Nov 8 for further investigation.

"The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," added Supt Saravanan.
