Jepak by-election: Come out and exercise your right to vote, urges S'wak Deputy Premier

BINTULU: Jepak voters should exercise their democratic duty to choose a new elected representative on Saturday (Nov 4), says Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

He called on voters to turn out in full force for the by-election.

"I hope the people of Jepak will fulfil their responsibility as voters. This is the right of all citizens aged 18 and above to choose their representative," he told reporters after campaigning at the Bandaria Park people's housing programme here on Friday (Nov 3).

The Jepak by-election - which sees a three-cornered fight between Iskandar Turkee (Gabungan Parti Sarawak), Stevenson Joseph Sumbang (Parti Bumi Kenyalang) and Chieng Lea Phing (Sarawak People's Aspiration Party) - was called following the death of GPS assemblyman Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.

Awang Tengah, who is GPS by-election operations director, said on polling day, the party's machinery would focus on mobilising supporters.

"This is important because our victory depends on votes.

"I hope there will be a high turnout to give us a big majority," he added.

Iskandar echoed the call for voters to turn out and cast their ballots.

He advised voters to check their polling stations, the opening and closing time.

"I hope all voters, whether in the town, villages or longhouses, will come out and fulfil their responsibility," he said.
