SUBANG JAYA: A training course on electric vehicles (EVs) will be proposed to the government so it can be expanded to youth from other races and backgrounds, says the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (Mitra).
Its special committee chairman Datuk Ramanan Ramakrishnan said currently, the Electrified Automation Advancement Programme (EEAP) is being offered to 250 Indian youths from underprivileged backgrounds.
“So far, the facilities specifically for EVs are sufficient, but there is room for progress,” he said.
All 250 EEAP participants will undergo training under the SG Education Group in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor.
“I am happy to work with SG Education for the programme and I will bring this forward to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim so it can benefit all races in the country,” Ramanan told reporters after launching the EEAP at Autotronics Centre of Excellence Sdn Bhd here yesterday.
He said participants who were enrolled for the EEAP, which is fully funded by Mitra, would be certified with a UK-based Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Level 3 qualification after graduation.
After completing the 28-day course, students will have jobs offered to them with an income of more than RM3,000, he said.
“We do not want to just equip them with skills, but also provide job opportunities so we can uplift these students from the B40 group.“The programme trains students by providing skills and knowledge on electrical processes, automation technology and EV integration systems,” he added.
Those interested can apply for the EEAP online and will be offered a spot on first-come, first-served basis.
