IF you were to look at any organisation chart, more likely than not, you would come across the Corporate Communication department.

Corporate communication is an integral component of any organisation, managing internal communication and activities among various stakeholders that promote the organisation’s identity, reputation, and branding.

Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR)'s Bachelor of Corporate Communication (Honours) is one of the most significant and long-standing programs under the Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI).

In this programme, students are taught essential communication, event management, and media-handling skills, equipping them for real-world projects and challenges.

The degree programme also teaches students how to analyse corporate communication and public relations issues from a range of academic and practical perspectives, while training them to be able to manage communication effectively in the business world and achieve the desired goals.

Speaking about the distinctive strengths of this program, FCI Department of Mass Communication head Kenneth Lee Tze Wui said, “Our Corporate Communication programme carefully integrates and familiarises students with the fundamentals of communication, human behavior, and strategic management.

“It also focuses on the use of information and communication technologies to prepare students for the corporate challenges in today's context.

“Students get to learn to apply related concepts to the communication objectives of businesses, industries, government groups, and non-profit organisations.”

Lee explained that throughout the programme, students would develop skills in research, writing, oral presentation techniques, as well as the use of social media and artificial intelligence tools for corporate communication.

These skills empower students to tackle intricate problems critically, objectively, and analytically, as well as enhance students' competitiveness by improving their corporate decision-making, problem-solving, and strategic communication abilities.

Upon completing this degree programem, students will demonstrate the capability to apply their knowledge to strategize corporate communication plans, thus advancing an organisation's vision, mission, and objectives.

Furthermore, they will acquire the skills to craft media releases, campaign proposals, and other corporate material that can enhance an organization's image and reputation.

What makes the degree programme special is the inclusion of two entrepreneurship courses that not only hone entrepreneurial skills but also encourage self-discovery for improved collaboration effectiveness.

He shared that the programme also offers an option for a Massive Open Online Course provided by established online education platform edX, founded by scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University.

“Over the years, we have seen our Corporate Communication graduates successfully climbing up the corporate ladder and securing their C-suite positions in various multinational organisations.
