THE opening of the Rafah border between Gaza and Egypt has provided hope for the family of Nurul Ain Haron, who is still trapped in Palestine with her family.
Nurul Ain’s father, Haron Hamim, said the opening of the border would mean that his 37-year-old daughter and son-in-law, Mohamed Adan Shaat, 33, could leave the enclave soon.
“As a father, I am worried for their safety and want to have them home, but I have faith in them and Allah.
“I was just informed about the border opening. I leave it to the government to assist them and bring them out of there (Palestine).
“I am not privy to what is being planned. The government is doing its best. Let the govt do its work,” he told Sinar Harian.
Haron said his daughter was in Palestine to visit Mohamed Adan’s family on Oct 1.
He said it was Nurul Ain’s first visit to Palestine after being married to Mohamed Adan for six years. Both Nurul Ain and her husband reside in the United Arab Emirates.
> A rubber tapper in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, had to leave her job to take care of her bedridden daughter, according to Utusan Malaysia.
Norhaniza Arifin, who is the sole breadwinner of the family, said she had to take care of her teenage daughter, Nur Adawiyah Awang Noh, full time after her daughter met with an accident in March, which left her paralysed.
Norhaniza, 44, said she spends about RM2,000 per month to purchase diapers and cans of milk, costing RM120 each.
“A can of milk can only last about three days. This is the only ‘food’ Nur Adawiyah can consume.
“I also have three other schoolgoing children that I need to take care of,” she added.
Norhaniza said while the Welfare Department provided her with RM450 assistance, it was not enough to sustain the family, as she would have to rent an ambulance for RM650 per trip to take her daughter to the hospital for check-ups and treatments.
