Jepak polls: Ballot boxes arrive for tallying, GPS candidate leads count

BINTULU: Ballot boxes have begun arriving at the Civic Centre here for tallying in the Jepak by-election, after polling closed at 5.30pm.

The first ballot box arrived at 5.49pm on Saturday (Nov 4) from Tabika Kemas Kuala Segan, one of three polling stations that closed earlier at 4pm.

There are 14 polling stations in total.

The Jepak by-election is a three-way contest between Iskandar Turkee of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), Stevenson Joseph Sumbang (Parti Bumi Kenyalang) and Chieng Lea Phing (Sarawak People's Aspiration Party).

Iskandar is currently leading the early count.

With two ballot boxes tallied as at 6.15pm, Iskandar has received 338 votes while Stevenson has 26 votes and Chieng four votes.

Voter turnout stood at 46% at 4pm, according to the Election Commission (EC).

The EC expects to announce the by-election result by 9pm.
