Man arrested over online threats to Education Minister


PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested a 28-year-old man over alleged threats against Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek on social media.

Bukit Aman CID chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said, in a statement Saturday (Nov 4), that the man was arrested on Friday (Nov 3) in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur.

"He has been remanded for three days to help in investigations.

"So far, four police reports have been lodged over issue," Comm Shuhaily said.

He added that the case was being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 22 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"Members of the public are urged not to speculate on the case as it could affect investigations," he said.

"The police also reminds the public to be vigilant and careful with regard to sensitive issues, especially when it comes to public safety when using social media," he said
