RM50mil for poverty alleviation in Terengganu

KUALA NERUS: Some RM50mil has been allocated for poverty alleviation programmes in Terengganu, says Implementation Coordination Unit (ICU) director-general Datuk Seri Wan Ahmad Dahlan Abdul Aziz.

He said the programmes include renovation projects and the construction of new houses, as well as upgrading of minor infrastructure and road repairs.

He said the funding was channelled by the government through ICU, which is under the Prime Minister’s Department.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said the large allocation was in line with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s desire to eliminate poverty in this country.

“We will work with various agencies and the state government to implement projects and programmes to eradicate poverty.

“So far, we have listed several projects that cover an allocation of RM21mil,” he said at the handover ceremony of the MyHaus housing project at Kampung Kubur Timah in Batu Rakit, Bernama reported.

The MyHaus Rumah Inspirasiku project was carried out through a collaboration between the Islamic Economic Development Foundation (YaPEIM) and the ICU to help the hardcore poor own their own houses.

Wan Ahmad Dahlan said through the collaboration, a total of RM695,000 was allocated to repair five houses as well as construct eight new houses in Terengganu.

“Three new houses and four renovated houses are ready to be handed over back to their respective owners.

“The remaining housing is scheduled to be completed before the end of this year,” he said.
