Unofficial: Runaway victory for GPS in Jepak


BINTULU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate Iskandar Turkee has won the Jepak by-election, according to unofficial results.

Iskandar will serve as the new Jepak assemblyman after garnering 87.8% of the votes counted as at 6.50pm, said Sarawak communications agency UKAS in a Facebook post.

Iskandar had garnered 7,672 votes against Parti Bumi Kenyalang candidate Stevenson Joseph Sumbang, who garnered 713 votes while Chieng Lea Phing of the Sarawak People's Aspiration Party managed to poll 352 votes, with counting still underway.

The Jepak by-election is a three-way contest.
