Van driver who jumped red light dies in crash

JEMPOL: A van driver who is believed to have beaten the red light, died after his vehicle crashed into a lorry transporting cement.

Jempol police chief Supt Hoo Chang Hook said S. Suganeshwaran, 27, died in the 4am incident along KM15 Jalan Kuala Pilah-Simpang Pertang.

“The dashcam recording we obtained from the lorry showed the driver had stopped at the T-junction.

“He only drove on when the light turned green,” he said.

The van driver, who was coming from the right, then crashed into the lorry.

Supt Hoo said a urine test conducted on the lorry driver came back negative for substances.

“The weather and road conditions were good at the time of the accident.

“We will send both vehicles to Puspakom for inspection,” he said, adding the 42-year-old lorry driver escaped without injuries.

Supt Hoo said the deceased’s blood sample would be sent to the Chemistry Department for a toxicology report.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
