PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia has commended Japan’s stand for humanitarian assistance to be allowed into Gaza, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The Prime Minister said Malaysia also appreciated Japan’s position on the illegal settlement by Israel into Palestine and the need for peace in the region.
“Although there are differences in emphasis between Malaysia and Japan on the issue, I must commend Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for his commitment,” he said on Sunday (Nov 5).
Anwar said this in a joint statement following a meeting with Kishida at Seri Perdana.

Kishida arrived in Malaysia on Saturday (Nov 4), his first visit to Malaysia since assuming office in 2021.
The Prime Minister said the situation in Gaza must be given attention, and according to reports, Israel had dropped more explosives on the besieged Gaza Strip compared to those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki during World War 2.
Kishida said he explained to Anwar Japan’s position.
“I conveyed that all direct parties need to act under international law, prevent spillover to neighbouring countries and to deescalate the situation quickly.
“I also mentioned that it is especially important to improve the humanitarian situation in Gaza,” he added.
Kishida said that when discussing regional and global issues, he expressed the importance of maintaining international order based on the rule of law.
“Frank discussions took place where I also stated the importance of ensuring human dignity is protected,” he added.
