Bersatu suspends Kuala Kangsar MP

PETALING JAYA: Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (pic) has been suspended from Bersatu for four years following a meeting by the party’s disciplinary board on Nov 3.

In a statement, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said Iskandar had violated Article 22.1 (f) of the party’s constitution.

Last month, Iskandar Dzulkarnain expressed his support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership especially in efforts to uplift the country’s economy and stem the rising cost of living.

He also said he supported the Prime Minister in order to gain extra allocations for his constituency.

The move had courted controversy among his peers, with some claiming that Iskandar Dzulkarnain had been coerced into supporting Anwar.

“After looking into all of the documented evidence, the seriousness of the offence, implication, impact on the party as well as his show cause letter, the disciplinary board committee has found him guilty.

“He is now suspended as a Bersatu member for four years, effective Nov 3.”

About two weeks after Iskandar Dzulkarnain’s announcement, his colleague Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman also expressed his support for the Prime Minister in order to get extra funds for his constituency.
