PKR no longer listed as Liberal International observer member


KUALA LUMPUR: The PKR logo has been removed from the Liberal International website after the party asked to be removed from its list of observer members.

A check by The Star showed the only Malaysian connection to the organisation is Gerakan, whose party logo appears in its list of observer members.

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil on Friday (Nov 3) said he contacted Liberal International to remove the party's name and logo from its website.

"Lately, there have been organised attempts to link PKR to a coalition of parties, namely Liberal International," he said.

He added that PKR had never been a member of the Liberal International nor paid any membership fees to the organisation.

Fahmi also said that PKR stands in full solidarity with the Palestinians and strongly condemns Israel's acts of violence against the people of Palestine.

Liberal International is a global federation of liberal political parties founded in Oxford, England, in 1947.

Currently made up of 111 parties and organisations, it is the pre-eminent network for liberal parties aiming to strengthen liberalism around the world.

Liberal International recently expressed support for Israel.
