Pakatan and Perikatan MPs ejected from Dewan Rakyat after shouting match

KUALA LUMPUR: A brief shouting match in Parliament saw Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul ejecting Mohd Misbahul Munir Masduki (PN-Parit Buntar) and Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat from the House on Monday (Nov 6) afternoon.

The incident took place as Mohd Misbahul was delivering his speech on Budget 2024, where he claimed that certain religious teachers were allegedly threatened for supporting the Opposition during the previous general election.

Mohd Misbahul said teachers have the right to political associations, which led Mohd Sany to interject repeatedly.

“I agree with you. Whether or not teachers support (political parties), let it be outside and not inside schools,” said Mohd Sany.

Mohd Misbahul then retorted and said he did not allow Mohd Sany to interject.

“Hulu Langat doesn’t know the rules. If I don’t allow it, then sit down. What kind of MP are you? I’m disappointed at Hulu Langat for repeatedly interrupting speeches,” said Mohd Misbahul.

Johari, who was presiding, allowed two extra minutes for Mohd Misbahul to deliver his speech.

Mohd Misbahul then proceeded to speak, saying that he hoped the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) would not stop religious students from reciting the takbir and qunut nazilah in schools.

Mohd Misbahul was explaining the meaning of the terms when his speech was interrupted.

MPs such as Syahredzan Johan (PH-Bangi) and Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari (PH-Sungai Petani) were heard asking Mohd Misbahul to clarify his remarks.

“He (Mohd Misbahul) is misleading the House. What kind of ustaz is this? He is misleading the House,” said Mohd Sany, laughing.

The shouting match continued as Mohd Misbahul attempted to complete his speech.

“Slander is not permitted in Islam,” said Mohd Sany.

Johari, who was visibly irritated, then ordered Mohd Sany and Mohd Misbahul to leave the House for the day.

“Only for today... you two can return tomorrow. Go and drink coffee outside,” he said.

Mohd Misbahul was perplexed by Johari’s decision to eject him from the House.

“The one who was interrupting my speech was Hulu Langat,” he insisted.

However, Johari stood his ground and ordered the two out of the House to have coffee in the cafeteria.

Johari then directed Aminolhuda Hassan (PH-Sri Gading) to deliver his speech on Budget 2024.

Committee stage debates for Budget 2024 will continue until Nov 27.

The current Parliament meeting is scheduled to end on Nov 30.
