Three nabbed in Ipoh crackdown on parking touts


Plain clothes policemen checking and questioning individuals believed to be illegal parking attendants.

IPOH: A special operation to nab illegal parking attendants was carried out around the city centre on Sunday (Nov 5).

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said based on complaints received from the public on these “ulat parkir”, police patrols, monitoring and intelligence were conducted.

He said during the operation, police arrested three local men aged 43 to 55 for carrying out illegal car parking activities along Jalan Laxamana, Jalan Bijih Timah and Jalan Foo Yet Kai.

“Any individual who commits the offence, and is involved in illegal parking activity, can be convicted under Section 50 (3) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for directing a vehicle to park at a space without valid authority.

“If convicted, they can be fined up to RM2,000, jailed a maximum of six months, or both,” he said in a statement on Monday (Nov 6).
