Gua Musang MP betrayed mandate by supporting PM, says Wan Saiful

KUALA LUMPUR: Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim betrayed the people’s mandate when he shifted allegiance to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, says former Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan, warning that there will be repercussions.

Wan Saiful said it was wrong of Mohd Azizi to stray from party lines by pledging support for the unity government, and Bersatu will discuss the matter soon.

“Personally, I’m very uncomfortable, and I’m angry with Mohd Azizi’s decision. This decision is wrong and does not resonate with the people’s hopes and mandate.

“I’m confident there will be effects from this action, and the party will discuss this,” the Tasek Gelugor MP said when met at the Parliament lobby on Wednesday (Nov 8).

According to Wan Saiful, the usual procedure is for the party to send a show-cause letter.

“He will have to answer (the letter), and there will be a decision by the party," he added.

Mohd Azizi was the third MP who pledged support for Anwar after Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid and Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman.

On Wednesday afternoon, however, Bersatu saw a fourth MP, Jeli's Zahari Kechik, declaring that he supported Anwar.

Asked if he was worried that more Bersatu MPs would pledge support for Anwar, Wan Saiful appeared unfazed.

This was part of Anwar's strategy to entice Bersatu MPs to switch their allegiance, he claimed.

“He told Opposition leaders to negotiate, but it turns out the discussions (were) to pledge support to him,” said Wan Saiful.

He said he anticipated more such incidents.

“Attacks towards Bersatu will continue, and we must defend ourselves,” he added.
