PETALING JAYA: Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim has pledged his support for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, making him the third Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia representative to do so.
The Perikatan Nasional leader from Kelantan said his decision came after studying and listening to the Prime Minister’s presentation of Budget 2024, which is aimed at facilitating economic recovery and alleviating the financial burdens of the people.
“I declare my full support for the leadership of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, beginning from the date of this media statement.
“My decision is made to ensure the people’s well-being and benefits in my constituency, including improvements in infrastructure and facilities that I have requested during my term of service,” his statement yesterday read.
Mohd Azizi noted that his support for the unity government’s initiatives in prioritising the people’s welfare would last until the next general election.
He noted that he had no intention of leaving or betraying his party.
“However, to ensure my Gua Musang constituency’s (development) aligns with the Federal Government, it is right for me to be a part of the leadership in Putrajaya,” he added.
Meanwhile, Labuan MP Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman has been suspended from Bersatu for six years, effective yesterday.
In a statement posted on his Facebook page yesterday, Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin said Suhaili had violated Section 22.1(f) of the party’s constitution.
“The disciplinary board unanimously used its power under Article 22.5(c) of the Bersatu Constitution to suspend Suhaili’s membership, together with all positions in the party he held for a period of six years, effective Nov 7,” he said.
Last week, the party had also suspended its Kuala Kangsar MP Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid for four years.
Both Suhaili and Iskandar Dzulkarnain had expressed support for Anwar’s leadership, especially in efforts to uplift the country’s economy and stem the rising cost of living.
