Let's plant bamboo for sustainability, urges Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Bamboo is a good plant for flood mitigation and the government is providing a subsidy of RM10,000 for each hectare of bamboo planted, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

"This includes fertiliser assistance as a lot of attention is being given to encourage cultivation of the plant.

"This was revealed by Deputy Prime Minister and Plantation and Commodities Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof during the winding up of Budget 2024 at the committee level in Parliament, when I asked him about the government's stance in regard to bamboo cultivation in Malaysia.

"Bamboo can absorb water four times better than regular trees and will benefit the country in terms of global carbon trading in the long term," Dr Wee added in a Facebook post on Wednesday (Nov 8).

"As such, let's plant bamboo for Malaysia's sustainability and prosperity," added the Ayer Hitam MP.
