Malaysians urged to take part in '11 Minutes for You, Palestine' on Nov 11

KUALA LUMPUR: All Malaysians are invited to come together in solidarity and participate in the "11 Minutes for You, Palestine" campaign on Nov 11 (Saturday) from 9pm to 9.11pm.

Palestine Liberation Solidarity Coalition (GSPP) operations director Muhd Farhan Muhd Fadhil said the campaign called on the public to spend 11 minutes in darkness by turning off the lights in their respective locations.

He said the effort, which was intended to be carried out simultaneously across the country, was a sign of the togetherness of Malaysians in acknowledging the suffering of the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza, which has come under continuous attacks from the Zionist regime since Oct 7.

"The date 11.11 was chosen because it is synonymous and easy to remember with special events like the big sales but on the date we try to bring a difference inviting people to form a wave of togetherness in the Palestine-Israel conflict.

"So, we take 11 minutes starting from 9pm when it gets dark by understanding the fear of the Palestinian people when they are in the dark because the electricity supply is cut off for hours, interspersed with the Israeli regime's relentless bomb attacks," he said when contacted by Bernama here Wednesday (Nov 8).

GSPP, a coalition of over 50 organisations and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) of various backgrounds, was launched on Oct 11.

Muhd Farhan said that during the 11-minute period, people were also called to hold activities with their families or individually in their respective homes such as prayers, reciting Qunut Nazilah, meditating and praying for the well-being of Palestinians.

"Looking at the current situation in the Gaza Strip, this war that is happening will determine the future of the Palestinian people, whether they succeed in fighting the Israeli colonial movement or not. If we don't make a 'move' now, there is a possibility of a Second Nakba or ethnic cleansing after the first one in 1948.

"It is our responsibility as Muslims to fully sympathise with the Palestinian plight so that we can pressure the relevant parties and the international community to thwart the Israeli regime's colonial plans," he said.

Muhd Farhan said that as soon as the campaign ends at 9.11pm, people are also encouraged to take pictures of their clenched fists and upload them on social media with the hashtags #SebarkanKemenangan (spread victory) and #AkhiriPenjajahan (end colonisation) so that the message of Palestinian solidarity reaches the entire world. - Bernama
