Some RM4.28mil was distributed to Tamil vernacular primary schools, while RM19.47mil was allocated for government-assisted Tamil vernacular primary schools.

For religious schools, RM28.68mil was allocated for maintenance works, and RM18.4mil for missionary schools.

“The Education Ministry is committed in its efforts to prepare education facilities and infrastructure for all schools,” Fadhlina said in a parliamentary written reply on Wednesday (Nov 8).

She was responding to a question by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam) who asked for the amount and breakdown of allocations distributed to Chinese and Tamil vernacular schools, government-assisted religious schools and missionary schools for repair purposes.

Separately, Fadhlina said the ministry also distributed additional allocations for minor upgrade and maintenance works at learning institutions this year.

Some RM29.19mil was allocated to Chinese vernacular primary schools and RM11.48mil for Tamil vernacular primary schools nationwide for toilet maintenance, among others.

Fadhlina explained that schools can also apply for additional allocations.

She said distribution of the funds was based on the priority list presented and recommended by state Education Departments and district Education offices to the ministry.

“We will consider any applications for further allocations from time to time, if needed, to ensure education facilities are comfortable and safe,” she added.
