KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 518 job scam syndicate victims have been rescued by the Foreign Ministry as of Nov 3, says Deputy Foreign Minister Datuk Mohamad Alamin (pic).
He told the Dewan Rakyat the ministry was currently identifying 26 Malaysians in Laukkaing, Myanmar also believed to be victims of such syndicates.

“The ministry is working through the Malaysian Embassy in Yangon, and in cooperation with Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines and China.
“Together, we are trying to coordinate and use all (avenues) to bring these 26 victims safely home,” he said during Question Time on Wednesday (Nov 8).

Mohamad said witness statements would be taken from the victims by police upon returning home.
Mohamad said the issue of job scam syndicates requires a whole-of-government approach.
“A special committee led by the Foreign Ministry was formed to (address the) issue," he added.

He also said the ministry had conducted awareness programmes to educate the public about such syndicates.
“At the same time, the ministry would like to remind all Malaysians to always be alert whenever they receive job offers from dubious social media platforms,” he added.
