15,000 APM personnel ready to be deployed

PETALING JAYA: Some 14,840 personnel are ready to be deployed ahead of the northeast monsoon, says the Civil Defence Force (APM).

The APM Disaster Secretariat said its assets nationwide comprised some 991 water-based vehicles, and 707 land vehicles including four-wheel drives, ambulances and lorries to enter flooded areas, when needed.

It said some 5,648 locations had been identified as flood hotspots.

“We are committed to strengthening the public’s preparedness by conducting various trainings, creating emergency warning systems and establishing relief centres during disasters,” it said.

Another initiative, Kampung Siaga 221, will train residents at 14 localities nationwide in preparations for any disaster.

“The programme is currently done in stages and focuses on areas with a higher possibility of disasters, alongside identified flood hotspots,” the statement read.

The secretariat advised the public to be wary of weather conditions and to only refer to verified information from government agencies and official media.

“Be careful with rising water levels and evacuate once the danger level is breached,” it added.

The northeast monsoon is set to begin this Saturday, and will last until March 2024.
