Chicken farmers in Johor have yet to receive subsidies, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: Chicken farmers in Johor have not received any subsidies since July 2022, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee said that the outstanding payments of this subsidy has affected the cash flow of farmers.

"I brought-up this issue in Dewan Rakyat in February and followed it up by submitting information of the complainants in a briefing four months ago," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post on Thursday (Nov 9).

"I also highlighted in the Dewan Rakyat the case of the Klang Valley Farmers Association president who allegedly bribed a ministry official to expedite the chicken and eggs subsidy payment.

"The official had since been remanded by the Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission. I hope such a practice will not become a trend," said the Ayer Hitam MP.

Dr Wee said he appealed to the government to allow small and medium farmers to continue their operations without being subject to the condition of constructing enclosure that will cost as high as RM10mil.

"Not all farmers have the capability to fulfil this condition; having small and medium farmers who can produce 30,000 to 50,000 chickens will ensure that we have a sufficient supply of chicken and eggs," he added.
