Cops to use soft approach to evacuate flood victims if needed, says S'gor police chief

SHAH ALAM: Evacuate when we tell you to do so for your own safety, Selangor police tells potential flood victims.

"There is a provision in the law that we can use, which is refusal to obey an instruction from an authoritative body, and also obstructing a public servant from discharging their duties.

"This could allow us to take sterner action but, at this level, we are still diplomatic because they are victims themselves," said Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan (pic).

"We will urge them to move using the soft approach and our discretion. If the situation worsens, it will make it more difficult for us to save and transport them out," he said during a press conference on Thursday (Nov 9) at the contingent headquarters.

He also advised those in flood-prone areas to keep their valuables and important documents in waterproof containers for ease of transport should there be an emergency.

Floods have hit several areas in Selangor, with several temporary evacuation shelters opened, including in Sepang.
