Early Deepavali treats for students of SK Padang Tembak in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: It was early Deepavali for Indian pupils at SK Padang Tembak, who were given goodie bags, new clothing and money.

The Penang Hindu Association (PHA) and the welfare arm of the Temple of Fine Arts organised the event where some 50 goodie bags were distributed.

Each bag had Deepavali cookies, drinks, stationery and new clothing.

"We would like to thank both PHA and Temple of Fine Arts for providing continuous support for the past four years to the less fortunate pupils studying in the school," said headmistress Hamidah Hamza on Wednesday (Nov 8).

She said that both organisations have been sponsoring these goodie bags for Hari Raya and Chinese New Year for more than four years, benefitting more than 1,000 students.

PHA president P. Murugiah said both PHA and KDS will continue with their efforts to serve with love the needy and the less fortunate, whenever and wherever possible.
