Health Ministry forms special teams to handle monsoon and flash floods


PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry has formed special teams to handle the Northeast monsoon which is expected to hit this weekend.

In a statement, Health Ministry secretary-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said the first two teams will be medical teams who will visit and provide treatment at temporary evacuation centres and another team is expected to monitor, prevent and control diseases at the same time carry out testing operations at the evacuation centres.

"The two other teams would be Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services to render and coordinate services by supporting psychosocial treatment to victims and staff.

"The last one would be the Rapid Assessment Team and Rapid Response Team who will be responsible to analyse and give response to control diseases during the floods," said Dr Muhammad Radzi on Thursday (Nov 9).

The Health Ministry said Dr Muhammad will provide the best service during the monsoon season to prevent waterborne diseases during the floods.

"A series of meetings for the preparation to face the floods have been held with all state Health Departments," he added.
