Odd-job worker pleads guilty to raping underage girlfriend in 2018

SIBU: An odd-job worker was sentenced to six years' jail by the Sessions Court after he pleaded guilty to raping an underage girl more than five years ago.

The 29-year-old accused was charged under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for up to 20 years’ jail and whipping.

On Thursday (Nov 9), judge Marutin Pagan ordered the sentence to commence from this day, after the guilty plea.

According to the charge sheet, the offence was committed at the workers’ quarters of a sawmill in Tanjung Kunyit here at midnight on Jan 5, 2018.

The victim, who was the accused's girlfriend then, was aged 14 years and five months.

The matter only came to light in June that year when the victim's mother brought her to a clinic for a check-up as she believed that her daughter was pregnant.

A month later, the girl confessed to her mother to having had sexual intercourse with the accused, and that she was expecting.
