IPOH: Some 4,600 litres of subsidised diesel worth RM381,500 have been seized by the Perak Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry in a raid at the Jalan Besar Jetty in Pangkor Island.
Its director Datuk Kamalludin Ismail said the syndicate is believed to be involved in the transaction of the controlled goods involving fishing boats at the jetty.
He said when the raid was carried out by officers from the ministry’s Manjung branch, diesel had been transferred from two boats by two men aged 27 and 71 years old.
“Upon further inspection, the two suspects were unable to produce any documents involving licenses or permits for the handling of the controlled diesel.
“Both the boats and the 4,600 litres of diesel were seized, and the suspects detained for further investigation,” he said in a statement Thursday (Nov 9).
Kamalludin added that the success of the raid was a result of two weeks of intelligence gathering after receiving information that the transfer of diesel from boat to boat involved the sale and purchase in large quantities.
He said six personnel from the ministry’s Manjung branch, as well as four personnel from the Marine police from Kampung Acheh in Sitiawan were involved.
The case, he said, would be investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961, and under the Control of Supply Regulations 1974.
“We are committed and consistent in enforcement activities, and we will never compromise when it comes to misappropriation of subsidised diesel, an item listed as a controlled good.
“The public can relay any information on such activities via WhatsApp to 019-279 4317/ 019-848 8000," he added.
