Telegram took down 133 pieces of content from Jan 1 til Oct 31, Dewan Rakyat told

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 133 pieces of content has been taken by social messaging app Telegram from Jan 1 till Oct 31 of this year, the Dewan Rakyat was told.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the pieces of content were taken down by Telegram upon request by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

Fahmi said the MCMC is taking strategic steps to curb misuse on Telegram, which includes the dissemination of pornography, scam activities and the sale of illegal items.

“Engagement between enforcement and Telegram have been and will be held continuously to improve the process and procedures in curbing all kinds of abuse that takes place in that platform,” said Fahmi.

Fahmi was responding to Zulkifli Ismail (PN-Jasin), who asked about Telegram’s steps in curbing cybersecurity crime, pornography and the sale of illegal items on its platform.
