Five men nabbed in Kluang for alleged rioting at a restaurant


KLUANG: Five local men were arrested for allegedly being involved in rioting that took place at a restaurant in Jalan Bunga Raya, Layang-Layang near here.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh said they were detained following a police report lodged on the incident on Monday (Nov 6) at 10.37pm.

“The suspects were apprehended during raids at different locations on Tuesday (Nov 7) and Wednesday (Nov 8) from 2pm to 1am,’’ he said in a statement.

ACP Bahrin said the raids took place at low-cost houses in Layang-Layang, Taman Sri Kluang, Kluang and Jalan Tebrau, Johor Baru.

He said the initial investigation found two suspects have previous criminal records while the other three have none.

“Urine tests conducted showed negative results,’’ said ACP Bahrin, adding they have been remanded for four days starting from Wednesday (Nov 8) to assist with investigation

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting which carries a maximum jail term of five years, a fine or both upon conviction.
