Langkawi MP apologises for sexist remarks

DATUK Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah (PN-Langkawi) has apologised for his sexist remarks against a government backbencher.

On Oct 26, Mohd Suhaimi told Teresa Kok (PH-Seputeh) that she could come to Langkawi even if she was not wearing anything.

He issued an apology to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and Members of Parliament, without mentioning Kok’s name.

“I would like to apologise for my mistake during my Budget 2024 speech on Oct 26,” he told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

“I am apologising to Tan Sri Speaker and MPs for my offensive and hurtful statement.

“I would like to emphasise that as an MP of this legendary island, Langkawi is close to my heart.

“Issues related to Langkawi and its people should not be trivialised,” he said.

He had made the offensive remarks after Kok asked whether shorts were allowed to be worn in Langkawi.

Mohd Shuhaimi also said he wanted to imagine what Kok would wear to Langkawi.

Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) and Lim Lip Eng (PH-Kepong) then filed two motions to refer him to the Rights and Privileges Committee.
