JOHOR BARU: MCA will be embarking on a campaign to recruit more young members as part of the party's rejuvenation process, says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said that the leaders of the party's Wanita and Youth wings will be going from state to state to attract more members into the party and as preparation for the next general election.
"MCA Youth chief (Ling Tian Soon), will be making his way to each state in Malaysia to meet with members from the youth wing.
"He will then set a target to the respective state youth wings on the number of new members they have to achieve.
"For Johor, I have previously set the target of getting 4,000 new members as soon as possible.
"The Wanita wing will also be travelling from state to state to recruit more young and professional female members," he said.
He said this in a press conference after chairing the Johor MCA Committee meeting here on Friday (Nov 10).
Dr Wee, who is also Johor MCA chairman, also noted that there has been an increase in interest among young people towards the party.
"For the past few weeks, we have been receiving applications from those who have just reached 18 and are interested in joining the party.
"They include university students and top debaters. I am quite impressed with their performance and I think this is a good sign," he said.
During the press conference, Dr Wee also announced the new line-up of the Johor MCA committee members, which is made up of majority new faces.
Among those who are in the state MCA lineup include Ling, who has been appointed as the state deputy chairman.
Meanwhile, Johor investment, trade, and consumer affairs committee chairman Lee Ting Han has been appointed as Johor MCA secretary.
