Two Sabah enforcement officers held for seeking bribe over DUI offence

KOTA KINABALU: Two enforcement officers have been arrested for allegedly soliciting bribes of up to RM8,000 in return for lighter penalties on an individual suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.

The suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were detained when they turned up to provide a statement at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here at 7pm on Thursday (Nov 9).

The men, both of whom were stationed in the same Sabah district, had allegedly solicited the bribe on Oct 4.

“The sum of RM2,000 had already been handed to one of the suspects on Oct 17,” said a source.

Sabah MACC director Datuk S. Karunanithy confirmed the arrests when contacted on Friday (Nov 10).

He said the case was being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, adding that the suspects were released under MACC bail after their statements had been recorded.
