Johor MB urges global action on Gaza crisis at meet

JOHOR BARU: Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi took the opportunity during the Asia Pacific Climate Week (APCW) 2023, a United Nations-backed programme, to highlight the humanitarian issue in Gaza.

Onn Hafiz asked the 3,000 APCW delegates to take a moment and think about the tragedy and genocide befalling the Gaza Strip.

“What is happening to them is a stain on humanity. I appeal to this rationally-minded international audience to side with love, compassion and justice.

“The world must work towards a ceasefire in Gaza and put an end to the deaths and sufferings of countless innocent men, women and children,” he added.

Onn Hafiz said this in his speech during the launch of the Johor Green Development Masterplan and the establishment of the Johor Sustainability Centre by Permaisuri Johor Raja Zarith Sofiah Binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah held in conjunction with APCW 2023 yesterday.

The APCW 2023, hosted for the first time in Johor, will be held until Friday.

Onn Hafiz stressed the urgency in which the world is combating change should also be applied in resolving the conflict happening in Palestine.

“Just like climate change, this too is an existential problem of our generation. We must take action in the name of humanity and for our fellow human beings. We must take action for our future generation,” he said.

The APCW 2023 is one of four regional climate weeks held this year ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference COP 28, which will be held in Dubai by the end of this month.
