Prayers answered as M’sian and hubby safe at last

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim hopes that Nurul Ain Haron, the Malaysian woman who was in Gaza with her Palestinian husband Mohamed AM Shaat, can share information on the situation there with fellow Malaysians when they return home.

In a video call with the couple, Anwar – who is currently in Mecca – expressed relief upon hearing that the couple had safely left the conflict zone.

“I wait (for the good news) in Mecca, and all of us here have you both in our prayers.

“Alhamdullilah, once you are back in Malaysia, rest for a while then update us (on what is happening there) so that people will know the situation, the violence which is still continuing. It needs attention,” he added.

Nurul Ain, 37, and Mohamed, 33, were scheduled to depart for Malaysia yesterday, after their successful evacuation through the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt at 8.23pm local time (2.23am Malaysian time) on Sunday.

During the call, Anwar also shared that Malaysia was working hard, including speaking to Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in order to avoid any more killings and to stop all the atrocities committed by Israel.

“I am doing my best to try and secure a strong position to prevent further killings and atrocities by Israel.

“This is beyond human imagination,” he added.

In a statement, the Foreign Affairs Ministry revealed that this evacuation was carried out following a meeting between the Prime Minister and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi during Anwar’s working visit to Egypt on Oct 23, as well as further coordination by the Malaysian embassies in Cairo and Amman.

It said the Malaysian Embassy in Cairo is also providing necessary consular assistance to Nurul Ain and Mohamed, Bernama reported.

The ministry expressed its highest appreciation and thanks to the governments of Egypt and Qatar as well as the embassies of Egypt and Qatar here for the cooperation and priority extended to Malaysia in the effort to safely evacuate Malaysian citizens in Gaza.
