Three burnt to death in road accident in Bercham


IPOH: Three people, including two teenagers were burnt to death in a horrific accident that caused their car to be pinned under a garbage truck in Bercham here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan said the incident occurred at 8.28pm on Monday (Nov 13).

He said the victims were the 20-year-old driver, and his brother and cousin brother, both 16-years-old.

ACP Yahaya said the accident occurred on Jalan Bercham near a plant nursery.

“The driver heading from the Tanjung Rambutan direction upon reaching the site which is a bend, lost control of the vehicle and collided with the truck that was on the opposite direction.

“Due to the impact, the car was pinned underneath the truck and went up in flames, and the victims died at the scene.

“The truck driver, and four assistants did not sustain any injuries, “ he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, he added.

“Those who witnessed the accident are urged to contact the district’s Traffic Enforcement and Investigation division chief DSP Koo Boon Kuat at 016-4173222 to assist in the investigation.

“The public is advised to always be careful and be alert on the condition of the road especially during bad weather to prevent any risk of accidents,” he said.

He said the family members of the deceased have been alerted, and the postmortem will be carried out today.
