Bersatu MPs who pledged support to govt should reconsider decision, says PAS

KUALA LUMPUR: Bersatu MPs who have pledged their support to the prime minister should reconsider their move, says the PAS information chief.

Ahmad Fadhli Shaari said that Perikatan Nasional was disappointed with the incident and hoped the four lawmakers could retract their support to the unity government.

“We’re disappointed, but we hope that those who had ‘crossed to the other side’ reconsider their decision and retract it,” he told reporters in the parliament building here on Thursday (Nov 16).

Ahmad Fadhli also said that the issue was more on an individual basis rather than a party issue.

“I believe that Bersatu has taken and will continue to take actions to curb the activity (of soliciting support from Opposition MPs).

“These were individual actions that can’t be linked to the party,” he added.

The Pasir Mas MP also accused the government of hypocrisy, claiming it was going against its principle of not supporting party hopping.

He added that the government should have refused to accept the support in the first place to show its anti-hopping commitment.

“This will backfire on the government in the future,” he added.

When asked if any PAS lawmakers were approached to express their support for the prime minister, Ahmad Fadhli said he was unaware of such an attempt.

“As far as we know, currently, there was none,” he said briefly.

Four Bersatu MPs – Datuk Iskandar Dzukarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar), Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang) and Zahari Kechik (Jeli) – had over the past two weeks announced that they were supporting the government.

The four said they were doing so to access constituency development funds.
