Community Communications Department chief resigns

PETALING JAYA: The Community Communications Department (J-KOM) director-general, Datuk Dr Mohammad Agus Yusoff, has confirmed that he has resigned from his post.

"Yes, I have tendered my notice to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. It's nothing out of the ordinary," said a jovial Mohammad Agus when contacted.

He also refused to comment on speculations surrounding his resignation, which several media portals have reported on Nov 16.

Mohammad Agus was appointed to the post in the Prime Minister’s Department on Feb 2.

Last August, Skudai state assemblywoman of DAP Marina Ibrahim called the government to replace Mohammad Agus for "failure to disseminate government initiatives to the people".

Earlier, in May, he had admitted that there were failings on his part, which led to confusion on infographics that J-KOM had published.

An infographic chart titled "Is it true the grocery bill has risen from RM200 to RM500 a month?" was put out by J-KOM on July 12 and raised public ire, who questioned its logic.
