KUALA LUMPUR: The Transport Minister says that procurement of new Electric Train Service (ETS) and commuter trains, which will help increase frequency along Southern and Northern lines, is underway.
Anthony Loke said the Gemas-Johor Baru ETS line would receive 10 new ETS sets, and six commuter trains would be deployed in the KTM Komuter Northern sector.
"The Transport Ministry is procuring 10 new sets of ETS and six sets of commuter trains for the northern sector to increase the frequency of trains.
"The procurement of the new ETS sets will serve the southern sector stretching from Gemas (Negri Sembilan) to Johor Baru," he said on Thursday (Nov 16), while winding up the Budget 2024 debate in the Dewan Rakyat.
Loke also said the ministry acknowledged that the demand for northbound ETS tickets from Kuala Lumpur was high and that a plan had been made to increase frequency.
He added, "The operator's ability will be improved so that the (ETS) service can benefit more commuters. "
In a separate issue, Loke said the ministry would consider resuming the now-suspended Skypark Link after the Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) is completed within the next three years.
"When Subang Airport has been redeveloped, which will be in three years, and has higher air traffic, we will revive it (the Skypark Link) but maybe with a newer model.
"We will discuss with relevant parties how to operate Skypark Link with Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB).
"We won't waste the existing track. We will look at another operation model," he said.
In June, Loke announced that the Cabinet had approved the redevelopment of Subang’s Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah airport.
