GURUN: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 2,227 summonses to foreign drivers, particularly those on motorcycles, in operations conducted statewide since Nov 1.
Kedah JPJ director Aman Shah Hashim said the presence of foreign nationals riding motorcycles was concerning, despite previous actions taken against vehicle owners.
"The highest number of summonses issued is to foreign drivers, so we can no longer tolerate this. We have already taken action against vehicle owners and drivers, most of whom are motorcycle riders. The majority are Rohingya, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and a few from India.
"So I urge local residents not to rent out vehicles to foreigners, even with the excuse of work purposes. We no longer compromise on this matter,” he told reporters during a special operation dubbed Ops Patuh Bersepadu at the Gurun Rest and Service Area here on Wednesday (Nov 15) night.
A total of 130 enforcement personnel were involved in the operation, including from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, the National Anti-Drugs Agency, the Department of Environment and the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centre (Puspakom).
Aman Shah said 780 vehicles were inspected, of which 112 vehicles were issued with 138 summonses for various offences, including no driving licence and insurance cover, expired vehicle licence and illegal modifications. - Bernama
