Acute pulmonary edema identified as hiker’s cause of death


GEORGE TOWN: The cause of death of a 58-year-old woman who collapsed along a hiking trail here has been attributed to too much fluid accumulating in the lungs.

George Town acting OCPD Supt V. Saravanan said that based on the postmortem examination carried out by the Penang Hospital forensics department, the cause of death has been determined to be acute pulmonary edema.

"The postmortem was carried out on Thursday (Nov 16) night at around 10.50pm.

"It said that she had water in her lungs.

"The doctor shared that there were no external injuries and no indications of foul play," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 17).

On Thursday (Nov 16), it was reported that a woman died while being transported to the Penang hospital.
