KUALA LUMPUR: Interest and the need for a challenge drove an engineer to join the Royal Malaysia Police force.
Insp Khairul Anwar Khalid, 26, named the best overall trainee for the Trainee Inspector Basic Policing Training Programme (PLAK), said he was born to a family of policemen.
"Today, I am graduating together with my older brother," he said after the graduation ceremony at the Police Training Centre (Pulapol) on Friday (Nov 17).
Insp Khairul said he worked as an engineer for about two years at a company in Bangsar before pursuing his true passion of becoming a policeman.
"I have no regrets leaving the world of engineering behind.
"I've been dreaming of joining the police force since I was in school," he lamented.
The young man, who is from Ipoh, Perak, said he also aims to join the police's Special Action Unit (UTK).
"I like challenging myself to be the best I can be, and I want to work hard to join the elite UTK," he said.
In the ceremony, three other trainees were also honoured with awards - Insp Nurul Nadhirah Muhamad Radzi (Best Academic Trainee) and Insp Muhammad Amir Faris Basri and Insp Dayang Siti Aishah Awang Ramli, who were named best outdoor training trainees for the male and female categories.
Meanwhile, Insp Muhammad Faris said he received tremendous support from his family members and friends to complete the police training.
"I was attracted to the police force because success requires discipline.
"When I was working as a barber in Ipoh, a police officer who came to the shop always talked about his experiences in the police force.
"He inspired me to join the police force. I am ready to serve the public," he said.
