SHAH ALAM: Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin encourages graduates to carry on studying after completing their diploma and degree courses.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin, who is also Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) pro-chancellor, said that knowledge is the basis for the formation of a high civilisation and seeking knowledge is a noble deed.
"The culture of acquiring knowledge needs to be enhanced because Malaysia needs problem solvers to help the country face increasingly complex challenges," she said in her royal address on the first day of the 98th convocation of UiTM at Dewan Agung Tuanku Canselor here on Saturday (Nov 18).
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin said that a university should also continue to empower research as a mission in advancing knowledge, encouraging innovation, and addressing current societal challenges.
"In order to encourage research programmes to be carried out at institutions of higher learning, especially at the Master's and PhD levels, opportunities for collaboration with industry need to be increased," she said.
Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin added that the industry can be a joint supervisor for the graduates because they can contribute ideas that can solve problems in the real-world industry.
The university should not only emphasise the academic aspect, but also on the development of talent and the personality of graduates, she said.
Earlier, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin presented doctorate degrees and the Masters degree to 125 people. - Bernama
