PETALING JAYA: Terengganu needs leaders who can revitalise the state economy and not someone who wants to hoard positions for himself, says Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
The Deputy Prime Minister said that it was for this reason that the unity government had agreed to nominate General (R) Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor against Perikatan candidate Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Sanusi Mokhtar.
Ahmad Zahid said this in a statement on Nov 18 after the nomination of Kemaman candidates earlier on Saturday (Nov 18).
"I believe in the personality of the Barisan Nasional candidate and his win will be a catalyst for the state economy," he said.
"The time has to come for the people to choose a representative who can serve, not merely choose a coalition who is never fed up with politicking with numbers," added Ahmad Zahid.
He adds that Terengganu needs a leader who can focus on revitalising the local economy and think of the state's development and not someone who wants to hoard positions for themselves.
"Let the Kemaman representative be one who can be the bridge to the Federal Government for better and organised development for the state," said Ahmad Zahid.
He added that with an organised Barisan, he is sure that Kemaman voters would be able to see who is best for harmony in Parliament.
The Kemaman by-election was called following the Terengganu Election Court's ruling on Sept 26 nullifying Che Alias Hamid's GE15 victory.
The petitioner had successfully proven the existence of elements of corruption during the campaign period.
The Election Commission (EC) set polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election on Dec 2 and early voting on Nov 28.
In GE15, Perikatan's Che Alias won the seat with a majority of 27,179 votes after obtaining 65,714 votes to defeat Barisan's Datuk Seri Ahmad Said (who obtained 38,535 votes), Pakatan Harapan's Hasuni Sudin (8,340 votes) and Pejuang's Rosli Ab. Ghani (506 votes).
