KEMAMAN: Ex-general Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor wants to use his extensive military experience to best serve Kemaman residents if he wins the Kemaman by-election.
“Every step I take today is to give back what I have gained from Kemaman,” said the 66-year-old former Armed Forces chief, who was born and raised in the constituency, according to Bernama.
“This is a suitable battlefield for us to strategise well, and it is not impossible for us to regain the ‘blue wave’ in Kemaman,” he told reporters after submitting his nomination forms for the by-election here yesterday at the Kemaman municipal council.
Barisan’s deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, who accompanied Raja Mohamed Affandi, said the latter was well-received by the coalition’s supporters and that he had also served Kemaman in his previous job.
“During the big flood in 2013, he built a big bridge in Kemaman when he was in the ATM (Malaysian Armed Forces).
“He also contributed to the country by raising the profile of ATM to a higher level”.
“If Barisan wins, it will be easy for us to serve the people here,” Mohamad said.
Mohamad said Barisan’s election machinery will focus on getting all its supporters to turn out to vote on Dec 2, especially those who disagree with the leadership.
“It is crucial for us to approach our voters – the BN and Umno members – first, then approach those who were on the fence before, and then those who had problems,” Mohamad told reporters.
Barisan will be taking on Perikatan Nasional’s Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar, who is also Terengganu Menteri Besar.
Some 141,790 electors are eligible to cast their vote in the polls.
