Former commando found drowned in Melaka


ALOR GAJAH: The body of an ex-commando was found in a pond by a teenager at Taman Indah in Sungai Udang here.

Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Arshad Abu said the 14-year-old boy found the body at 5.30pm on Saturday (Nov 18) when he went there to fish.

He said the boy and his father then alerted the Masjid Tanah police station.

Supt Arshad said the victim had been identified as Muhammad Azwan Ishak, 42, from Felda Keratong, Pahang.

He said the victim was stationed at Terendak Army Camp at Sungai Udang here and had resigned recently.

Supt Arshad said the victim, a divorcee, called his ex-wife at 9pm on Friday (Nov 17) and could not be contacted after.

"The ex-wife told police that the victim had no record of illness," he said on Sunday (Nov 19).

Supt Arshad said the body was recovered from the pond with the assistance of firemen.

He said the body was sent for a post-mortem examination at Melaka Hospital, which confirmed the cause of death as drowning.

Police have classified the case as a sudden death report.
