GEORGE TOWN: For the last time, DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke declared that there was never any scheme to unseat Chow Kon Yeow as Penang's chief minister.
He dismissed these as mere rumours that the media reported because Chow has the full backing of DAP's central leadership to serve as chief minister.
"Before the last state election, support was given to Chow as the chief minister candidate.
"He led the election campaign and successfully maintained all 19 state seats for Penang DAP," he said on Sunday (Nov 19).
Speaking at a press conference after opening the Penang DAP convention in Komtar on Sunday, he said the worries about a move to oust Chow were baseless and assured the public that Chow had the support of the DAP's central executive committee.
Loke said the most important thing now is for Chow to work on his succession plan and choose the candidate to replace him after the next general election.
In Penang, enactments to the state's Constitution in 2018 ensured that an assemblyman may only be chosen to become the chief minister for two terms; this is the only state in Malaysia with this law.
