KEMAMAN: Despite having his hands full as Terengganu Menteri Besar, Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar believes he can still serve Kemaman effectively as an MP.
Ahmad Samsuri, who is the Perikatan Nasional candidate for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election, said he hoped to bring issues affecting the state to the Dewan Rakyat.
“I believe that there will be a lot of state and national issues that will be brought up during the by-election, and I am confident of resolving them,” Ahmad Samsuri told reporters according to Bernama.
“If I am elected, I will strengthen and improve services for the people here,” Ahmad Samsuri said after submitting his nomination papers at the Kemaman Municipal Council in Chukai, here, yesterday.
“For instance, when it comes to floods, regardless of whether there is an election, we are constantly in a state of readiness with simulations and engagement sessions,” said Ahmad Samsuri of PAS, Perikatan’s biggest component party.
Meanwhile, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, who accompanied Samsuri, said the party aimed to win with a bigger majority than what it received during the 15th General Election.
In GE15, Perikatan’s Che Alias Hamid had won the Kemaman seat by a 27,100-vote majority over Barisan’s Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, a former Terengganu Menteri Besar.
“God-willing, with the efforts of the Perikatan Nasional machinery, we will get more votes than the last GE15,” Abdul Hadi said.
Ahmad Samsuri is taking on Barisan Nasional’s Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi Raja Mohamed Noor in the Dec 2 by-election.
