More officers likely for single border agency

A STUDY is being conducted to see if it is necessary to create additional postings to place officers under the proposed single border agency to monitor 141 entry points of the country’s borders starting next year, says Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.

The Deputy Home Minister told the Dewan Rakyat that discussions are ongoing with stakeholders, including those from the Public Service Department.

He added that the move is being considered as Indonesia will be moving its capital from Jakarta to Nusantara, Kalimantan.

“The Home Ministry is aware that there is a need to increase the number of officers (along the borders), given such development, and the Immigration Department is conducting a study to see if it is necessary to increase manpower to guard the entry points,” he said.

Shamsul said this in reply to a question from Roy Angau Gingkoi (GPS-Lubok Antu), who wanted to know if the ministry will increase the number of immigration and police officers at Lubok Antu, Sarawak, the border entry between Malaysia and Indonesia.
