Bomb hoax: Rembau religious school also falls victim, 500 evacuated on Nov 21


REMBAU: Sekolah Tinggi Islam As-Sofa in Kota near here also fell victim to a bomb hoax that forced the evacuation of more than 500 students and staff on Tuesday (Nov 21).

Rembau OCPD Deputy Supt Hazri Mohamad said the threat was sent to the school's e-mail account on Tuesday.

"The sender claimed a bomb had been planted in the school compound early Tuesday morning.

"Police and Fire and Rescue Department personnel were immediately alerted and carried out checks at the school," he said in a statement.

A bomb disposal team from the state police contingent, which was sent in to carry out more checks, also failed to find any explosives.

DSP Hazri said the students and staff were only allowed back in the school after a thorough inspection had been carried out.

He said the case was being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation and Section 233 of the Communication and Multimedia Act for misuse of network facilities.
